Traditionally,
ladies take rest from practice on the first 2-3 days
of their personal moon (menses).
Contemporary women in yoga have taken varying
approaches to this, from ignoring
it altogether, to taking a full three days. Some
want to take this time to rest
the body, others find that doing the practice
helps them feel better. The old
Indian taboos, such as banishing the woman to
the back room for four days, have
been rightfully left behind by contemporary
women, who instead have decided individually
how they want to do it, an approach we at the
Shala support. |
